V CONFERENCE OF METAL WORKERS TRADE UNIONS
OF SOUTH-EAST EUROPE

The V Conference of Metal Workers Trade Unions of South-East Europe was organized by Metal Workers Trade Unions of Kosovo in cooperation with the PAU Foundation and Trade Union ‘’Solidaritat’’, Catalonia.
Over 40 delegates of MW Trade Unions from Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Spain (Catalonia), Kosovo, Albania, Slovenia, as well as the delegation of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, took part in the work of the Conference.
The Conference was opened by Hasan Abazi, President of SPMK, and then all those present were welcomed by the President of Pec Municipality and representative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, representative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, as well as trade union representatives from several countries – participants.

The MWBU ’’Nezavisnost“ Office received the information from the Professional Service of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ on the existence of ‘’Information’’, signed by Slavko Vlaisavljević, Vice-President of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, President of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of Food Industry, Catering and Tourism, and the man who stands proxy for and represents the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’.
It was requested in the Letter from permanently employed to state in written form whether they were willing to carry out Slavko Vlaisavljevic’s work orders.
This ‘’Information’’ doesn’t refer to permanently employed in the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, President D. Matic, Vice-President Negoslav Jovanovic and Secretary A. Todic, although they have been employed in this Trade Union for a long time and are still employed.

On October 9 2008 the employees of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ came unexpectedly upon an unpleasant situation reflected in a conclusion that the computer unit housing, property of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, disappeared.

The Police was called, which found out and established that there was neither burglary nor breaking into the premises, which means that the thief had the key. The keys of the mentioned premises are in the possession of employees of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of Civil Engineering and Construction Material, Itinerary Business Life and Lumber Industry.

THE WORLD DAY OF UNCERTAIN JOBS IN BELGRADE – SOLIDARITY IS THE BASE OF DIGNIFIED WORK

The action of earmarking 7. October – Day of Uncertain Jobs and fight for dignified work ended. It was organized and carried out by MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and the ‘’AMWTUS’’, and took place in Belgrade.
In the centre of Belgrade unionists distributed thousands of booklets and leaflets, the content of which was dedicated to uncertain jobs and explanation of the term of uncertain job. A great attention was called to polling citizens which gave their judgment of uncertain job and personal experiences they had.
Intellectuals and workers, men and women, young and old are equally affected when uncertain job is in question. Unfortunately, it turned out that uncertain jobs are omnipresent, but that employees often do not recognize its presence and modalities.

MOBILIZING TRADE UNIONS AGAINST UNCERTAIN JOBS

Subotica, as the city of Vojvodina and Serbia, located in the far north, was not spared from the existence of uncertain jobs with all of its modalities. Citizens and employees do not often know that they are a part of the global problem concerning the existence of uncertain jobs and worthless work. This unionist action undertaken by two Metal Workers Trade Unions, the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and the ‘’AMWTUS’’ called significant attention of citizens and the media of Subotica.

BASIC PROBLEM - UNEMPLOYMENT

The city of Nis is affected by increasing number of unemployed and unsuccessful privatization. The young, as well as older employees are affected by uncertain jobs. This is a brief summary presented by active trade union members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and ‘’CATUS’’ after the talks and polling the citizens of Nis within the action called ‘’Uncertain job affects all of us’’, on the occasion of October 7 – World Day of ‘’Uncertain Job’’. More than 100 of those polled stressed the existence and encounter with some forms of uncertain jobs. A considerable number of employed think that they are doing a humiliating job proportionate to the amount of wages they get or do not get.
