TEENAGER WITH WRINKLES ON HIS FACE
Belgrade, November 24 2008
-‘’The UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ represents a set of values which Metal Workers will never deny. If we were able to form the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ we could also protect it, because of our members, future members and those who founded the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ in the 1990-ties.’’ These words, said by Dragan Matic, MWBU President, have been confirmed by those who are active members and supporters of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union and who gathered on the invitation of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ to celebrate the Day of Founding the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. Nebojsa Savic and Branko Miladinovic were in a group of 12 courageous unionists, visionaries, which conceived the sign and gave the name UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. Recognizable letters of the name UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ were devised by Viktor Gadomski and the Request for trade union registration in the Register was signed by Miodrag Zupanac. The founders of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ that were present and members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ noted a deep and very serious crisis within the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union, caused by misuses, abuses and insanity of one man. Such events represent a threat to UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, so that it will be totally ruined, which the politicians and employers would like to see.

TRADE UNION AS PROTECTOR
Kikinda, November 21 2008
One hundred and fifty workers of ‘’Le Belier’’ Foundry from Kikinda were fired, without being notified timely of the reasons for their dismissal from work, and contrary to the provisions of the Labor Law. Among fired workers there were about 50 members of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, from which 15 of them had Labor Contracts signed for an indefinite time period. The engaging of Labor Inspection and Lawyer of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ had a positive effect, so that 5 workers returned to work and the remaining 10 would return until the end of the week. It should be mentioned that they are members of the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Trade Union. As the reasons for this drastic firing of workers of ‘’Le Belier’’, reduced production by almost 50% and orders coming from ‘’Reno’’ Factory, ‘’Mercedes’’ ‘’BMW’’ and ‘’Peugeot’’ were stated. The Company announced that a considerable number of employees would return to work at the beginning of next year and during the early spring months.

ACTION OF MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ ‘’FOR GENERAL COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT’’ WAS SUCCESSFUL – RASIM LJAJIC, MINISTER OF LABOR AND SOCIAL POLICY SIGNED THE G.C.A.
THE GENERAL COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT FOR EVERYBODY
Belgrade, November 21 2008
The G.C.A. was signed with a 6-month delay and Minister Ljajic’s signing of this Agreement enabled that the G.C.A. provisions would be applied to all employers and employees in Serbia. This very important event has been adversely affected by Trade Unions’ consent that employee rights should be considerably minimized. Instead of 30% of the average pay, intended for hot meal, employees will get 15%, and vacation allowance was reduced from 100% of average pay to 75%. The application of such ‘’rump’’ G.C.A. has been planned for 2009. Social partners didn’t get the information on the cost of the G.C.A. application and budgetary funds provided for this purpose.
