Branislav Canal’s attempt to give orders to company directors in the settlement of accounts with MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’
UNIONIST AND DICTATOR
Belgrade, December 8 2008
Persecuting members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Branislav Canak sent an order to directors of the companies, in which this Union has performed its activities, pertaining to the way of settlement of accounts with trade union presidents. Canak’s good experience in cooperation with some Serbian employers, especially with those recorded in the criminal files, resulted in the opinion that all directors were criminals, which is absolutely untrue. The fact that our colleagues, employed in various companies and in Cable Factory – Jagodina, elected their trade union representatives in a democratic way, Canak ignored. The next ones for expelling will be ordinary members which pay trade union membership dues every month on a regular basis, with the view of trade union strengthening, and in no way to be expelled and suspended.

SOLIDARITY SAVES JOBS
Kragujevac, December 1 2008
The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava Tapacirnica’’ (Upholstery) has taken the position that any further discharging of workers must be stopped through showing solidarity for over 300 employees. An agreement between Trade Union and Company Management has been reached with the view of shortening working hours as one of the responses aimed at overcoming difficult business situation in the Company, because of reduced orders by BMW, Reno, Gramer, Opel, etc. Shortened working hours apply for November 2008. For the present, 30 workers with Part-Time Labor Contracts, have already left the company. The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union suggests that the model of payment and operation during November should be applied to December as well, but without further firing from work.

FALSE GENERAL COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT
Jagodina, December 1 2008
The obligations undertaken at the VI Congress of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ were discharged and Decisions of the Leading Committee carried out successfully. The Actions called ‘’Uncertain job affects all of us’’ and ‘’For the G.C.A.’’ confirmed the decisiveness of Metal Workers to consider global, as well as national problems having impact on lives of Serbian workers and citizens. Serbian Industrial Trade Union is a reality, and it is expected that it will, to a considerable extent, give the answers to the crisis in Serbian unionist movement and enable a more efficient and intense approach of industrial trade unions to system institutions.

EMF, IMF, NATIONAL METALWORKERS' UNIONS
HELP
Belgrade, November 25 2008
Dear colleagues,The activities and the very existence of GSM 'Nezavisnost' have for several months been under attack by Branislav Čanak, the President of UGS 'Nezavisnost', who has drawn into this personal madness a number of state institutions not happy to see a well-organised, powerful and democratic trade union movement in Serbia. GSM 'Nezavisnost' has been using all available legitimate and civilised means to protect GSM 'Nezavisnost' organisation and all its members. After the suspension of all the legitimate organs of GSM 'Nezavisnost' elected at its 6th Congress on the 18th and 19th of September 2008, not recognising the fact that the 6th Metalworkers' Congress was ever held, Čanak expelled from the Union all GSM 'Nezavisnost' members elected to Union bodies – the Main Board, the Presidency, the Statute and Supervising Committees, the Presidents of the Women's Section and the Youth Section, and all Union local presidents in companies, all 226 of them. In all these locals GSM 'Nezavisnost' has almost 28,000 members. All of this was done in contravention of the Statute and real life, because UGS 'Nezavisnost' is made up of sectoral unions, each of which has its own members, is a separate legal entity, has its own union structures, Statute, Rules of Procedure, etc…
