THE YOUTH AS A HOPE OF SERBIAN SOCIETY

Belgrade, December 17 2008
‘’The Conference of Young Metal Workers of SMWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ takes place in extremely tumultuous and dramatic period, as within trade union, so also in governmental structures. If we agreed that young people were the ones bringing changes and new ideas, we could draw a conclusion that this Trade Union had a chance. We believe that young union members will mostly benefit from the stated changes. Senior union members have to enable the Youth to carry out the necessary changes and disclose their ideas, so this must be the guiding idea of the present trade union leadership on all organization levels’’, stressed Dragan Matic, President of SMWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, when addressing young people.

Trade Unions, which once played an unavoidable role even during the period of one-party system, are now supervised by those engaged in big business and involved in active transition crimes. The decisions made by the two biggest trade union organizations have neither had an impact on the greatest exploiters in the country nor have they disturbed this country, it has been said in the text written by the journalist, Ana Leso, and published in the newspaper “Tabloid”.
