THE STRIKE SEASON IN THE SOUTH OF SERBIA BEGAN
SYNDROME ‘’PECONI’’ MOVED TO THE SOUTH OF SERBIA

The privatization of ‘’Leteks’’ took place on November 30 2006. Workers expected the start of operations, because it was agreed with the company owner that she would pay out the outstanding earnings to them in continuity, but instead, she emptied the factory workrooms, sold all the machines as scrap iron and opened a Ready-made Clothing Factory ‘’Konfekcija’’ where she employed new workers that she didn’t register with the competent authorities, and she sent the present employees to unpaid leave of absence. Workers were revolted and initiated an action for exercising their basic rights. They demand the observance of the Collective Agreement, re-considering the Labor Contract which they signed, observance and application of the Labor Law that guarantees payment of outstanding wages to them, traveling allowances, hot meal, vacation allowance, etc.

DINKIC’S SUPPORT TO FOREIGN INVESTMENTS

Minister of the economy and regional development, Mladjan Dinkic, with associates, visited GOSA – Rolling Stock Factory. After the talks to company management in the course of which business operations in 2007 and business plans for 2008 were presented to him, Minister Dinkic visited the production facilities and gave a statement for the public that the employer invested considerable funds in the development and that the mentioned Factory would be able to use the funds from the Investment Fund in 2008. On that occasion, he expressed his gratitude to Slovak government, because it didn’t recognize unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence, and for investing significant funds in the development of Serbia.

The Meeting of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Coordinating Committee of Belgrade Region was held on February 22 2008, and representatives from Jagodina were present at this meeting as guests. Besides solving current problems of employees on regional level, the Coordinating Committee discussed two very important topics: ‘’Supplementary Pension Insurance’’ and ‘’Developing Social Partnership’’ with the view of activating surplus manufacturing capacities, equipment and manpower. The Metal Workers of Belgrade Region did a lot in the area of education of trustee office representatives and membership on the whole in the first quarter of 2008 with previously treated subject on ‘’Stop Mobbing’’.

WOMEN’S BLOOD DONOR ACTION

The Women’s Section of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ for Severna Backa – Zapadna Backa Region organized the Women’s Blood Donor action. The aim of this action was blood donation by women members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ from Subotica. The action was supported by men and women colleagues of Public Health Care Branch Union and it was carried out in the Transfusion Ward of Subotica Hospital. The action was supported by a sufficient number of women, of which four of them were blood donors for the first time, so the Transfusion Ward handed in Certificates of Gratitude to them for this humane act.

The United Branch Union ‘’Nezavisnost’’ is implementing the project titled ‘’Developing social partnership for start-up of surplus manufacturing capacities, equipment and manpower’’ by means of grants provided by the city of Belgrade, for stimulating employment. Approximately 50 million dinars was set aside last year for 11 employment projects, 1000 persons were registered for the training sessions associated with business start-up, 280 secured jobs, and 30 companies were opened – stressed yesterday Zivana Kojic, Assistant Secretary for the economy of Belgrade, at the promotion of the project.

’’NEZAVISNOST’’ TRADE UNION READY FOR PRIVATIZATION

Tenders were invited on January 31 2008 after many years of expectations and restructuring carried out, for the Joint Stock Company - Cable Industry Jagodina Holding. Our Union has been preparing itself patiently in a longer time period for this crucial moment, namely, for the company with the largest number of employees in Pomoravlje Region. We supported the privatization from the very beginning as the only way out of the situation in which the Cable Industry found itself and was for a long time. We have prepared the organization for this moment and trained ourselves during this period on the issues of privatization and post-privatization process.
