BELGRADE METALWORKERS UNITED

Belgrade processing industry needs an incentive not only from the State, but from the City of Belgrade as well. Present neglecting of Belgrade industrial sector has caused the closing of many companies, while the other are awaiting the same destiny, should not there be any organized actions for survival of Belgrade metalworkers. Industrial union of Serbia and its members have successfully «pushed» the program of privatization of IMT and IMR, which minister Mladjan Dinkic accepted. The plan is to merge these two factories in the location of Rakovica, and to sell the parcel of IMT in New Belgrade. IMT is located in the most attractive land development in southeastern Europe, and the factory like IMT does not belong there anymore. ISS will show great care for the position and the rights of the workers in post-privatization period, through protective regulations of Purchase contract and Collective agreement.

The president of ISS Dragan Matić submitted the report on the work of ISS, in which he exposed the achieved results, as well as the present problems, which need to be solved,. The new methods of organizing and the draft of the Statute of ISS were the subjects of interest to the present audience, but Executive Committee will bring the final attitude towards it at the session planned for April 2009. The colleagues exposed the data about the current conditions in their companies, and the consequences of the global economic crisis. It is noted that the employers misuse financial crisis and justify their incapability by nonexistent instances in their companies.
Representatives of French metalworkers’ union FTM CGT, Daniel Pellet Robert and Christian Philichovski, in charge of international cooperation, attended Belgrade coordination. Discussions were held about the current moment and the position of processing industry, and especially metalworkers' industry in France and in Serbia, and the activities, which FTM CGT and ISS have, as well as about the continuation and the modality of cooperation of the two unions, which have lasted for years. It is emphasized that the employed all over the world cannot be responsible for the disruptions happening in the bank sector, and the bad moves of the large capital in the past ten years. The unions must develop strategies and activities to protect the standard of living and the work status of all the citizens, and the price of recession should be transferred to those who provoked it. The problems of French and Serbian employers are very similar, and we firmly believe that by exchanging experience and by high level of solidarity, we can find the solution even for the present global issues.
