U. S. STEEL SERBIA – FIVE SUCCESSFUL YEARS




Belgrade, September 19 2008
On the occasion of the 5th Anniversary, U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. organized a reception in the Business Center ‘’Usce’’ for the officials of the Republic of Serbia, esteemed business partners, trade union representatives, journalists and friends from Belgrade, Serbia and neighboring countries. The MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ was represented by the President of the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o., Mileta Gujanicic and former President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic. Presenting the results of 5-year operations in Serbia, the General Director of U. S. Steel Serbia, Richard Veitch, stressed that this anniversary was marked by achievements as of the Company employees, so also of customers. The position of the largest exporter from Serbia, U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. reached through concerted efforts of Serbs and Americans in the production of the top-quality steel being exported worldwide. One of the most important steps was made possible with the consistent pursuing of job safety policy and its acceptance by employees. Employees of U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. now understand completely the full importance of the slogan ‘’Safety First.’’ The reached level of safety goes toward ‘’zero injuries.’’

U. S. Steel Serbia is the first privately owned company in Serbia that signed the Agreement with the Ministry of Environmental Protection by which it bound itself to invest over 50 million dollars, in the next two years, in the environmental protection projects. – ‘’These projects are already in progress, and as we aspire towards further improvement in the area of environmental protection, they will be followed by other projects too.’’

- ‘’A vision, leadership and cooperation were necessary to reach success that was achieved so far. This vision, leadership and cooperation come from our employees, their trade union representatives, our communities, customers and suppliers. This commitment to achieving the best results will make life better for all of us’’, said Mr. Veitch by summarizing all that was done in the last five years.

This 5th Anniversary was used for public announcement of U. S. Steel Serbia’s plan to build a galvanization line in Smederevo.

- ‘’We plan to invest at least 100 million dollars in the erection of this facility, which will enable the opening of at least 50 vacancies and approximately 225 on the erection jobs. We expect that the erection will last 20 months and we will start immediately after obtaining all required permits and permissions. With this facility, U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. will be able to produce new high-quality products that will meet the increasing demands for top quality steel in the Ex – Yu Market. We believe and expect that we shall have another 5 more successful years coming’’, said Mr. Veitch.
